While perhaps not as easy as accomplished actors make it seem, acting builds on techniques that you can learn and practice.  In this Acting Skills class, you will learn many techniques important to auditioning and developing not only your acting abilities but also your self-confidence.  This is your chance to explore audition basics, warm-up routines, script work, improvisation, scene study, and character study.  Action!

This class will support the improvement of fundamental drawing skills, while bringing students together for fun and creativity.  This session will focus on elements & principles of design as well as perspective. Come explore line, form, shading and texture using traditional art media.  Class may be taken multiple times through the year; lessons and subject matter will vary each session.  Media could include pencils, charcoal, colored pencils, pens, markers and pastels.  Supplies are provided via supply fee.

Do you have a young actor yearning to explore the world of theatre? In this class, instructor Shelby Mejia will guide students through theatre basics and techniques that they can either carry with them as they advance in the craft, or even use in their day to day lives. This exploration will be done using theatre games, scene work, improvisation practice, character development, and storytelling techniques.

Ages 8-14

In the scene study class, actors will take specific scenes from movies, television, or plays and apply exercises and techniques to create believable characters and performances. Actors will work with the instructor to build on foundational skills and receive feedback to improve their craft.  The class will conclude with a mini presentation of scenes and/or monologues for friends and family on the last day of class.

Told in vignettes in a style similar to 10 Ways To Survive The Zombie Apocalypse, this show hilariously skewers the tropes of the murder mystery: an airtight alibi, a long-winded monologue by a detective with an accent, an impossibly complicated Rube Goldberg murder device? By the end of this class, students will have gained confidence in their artistic abilities and a deeper understanding of spatial awareness, all while having fun experimenting with different materials and techniques.
