Start the new year with a focus on improving your mental health and wellness through creative expression and release. Join us at the ARTfactory for our free Kickoff Events for our Twenty-Twenty THRIVE ARTful Wellness Series. This new series will include a themed free, community event on the second Saturday of each month followed by workshops and classes geared toward improving mental health and wellness through art in all forms.
Get a sample of what's to come with several stations where our instructors will be sampling some of their workshop offerings for you to get signed up for.

Saturday Cartooning 2/1-2/22

Ages: 8 - 14
Do you love creating comics, cartoons, and anime sketches? Improve your character illustration skills and personal style. We will look at Eastern and Western comics, and then use hand drawing techniques to illustrate a page, just like the professionals! Supplies provided.
For ages 8-14.

Acting for the Screen for Young Actors (8-14yrs)
with Amy Treat
Ages: 8 - 14
This class is designed to teach young actors how to apply their acting skills to working on camera. Instructor and screen actor Amy Treat will guide and help young actors improve their confidence, perfect their technique, and learn the basics of performing for the camera.
Students will develop skills such as:
Screen technique: How screen acting differs from live performance
Visual storytelling: How to work in contemporary scenes
Body positioning: How to position your body for the camera
Memorization: How to memorize lines
Improvisation: How to improvise on camera

Drawing Skills (8-14yrs) 2/3-2/24

Ages: 8 - 14
This class will support the improvement of fundamental drawing skills, while bringing students together for fun and creativity. This session will focus on elements & principles of design as well as perspective. Come explore line, form, shading and texture using traditional art media. Class may be taken multiple times through the year; lessons and subject matter will vary each session. Media could include pencils, charcoal, colored pencils, pens, markers and pastels. Supplies are provided via supply fee.

Acting for Young Adults 2/4-2/27

Ages: 13 - 18
Join us for an exciting and engaging acting class designed specifically for middle and high school students who have a passion for the dramatic arts! Led by an experienced and talented theater professional, this workshop aims to provide a fun and supportive environment where young actors can explore and develop their acting skills.
Through a series of interactive exercises, improvisation games, and scene work, students will learn the fundamental techniques of acting, including character development, voice projection, body movement, and stage presence. They will also gain confidence in public speaking, teamwork, and problem-solving – skills that are essential not only on stage but also in their everyday lives.

Kid's Theatre Exploration (8-14yrs) 2/6-2/27

Do you have a young actor yearning to explore the world of theatre? In this class, instructor Shelby Mejia will guide students through theatre basics and techniques that they can either carry with them as they advance in the craft, or even use in their day to day lives. This exploration will be done using theatre games, scene work, improvisation practice, character development, and storytelling techniques.

Drawing

Whether Pre-college, retirement launching point, or refining your skills, this drawing class is THE class to take!

As an award winning artist with over 16 years of experience teaching drawing and award winning students, THIS is THE drawing class to take if you are serious about learning to draw!
If this is your first time signing up for class, please select the option to add the "Drawing Kit." The supply kit is a one-time purchase and will be the supplies needed anytime you take a drawing class with me.
HOW DO THE CLASSES WORK?
Classes are one day a week broken up into 2 8-week sessions - The skills you will learn over the course of 16 weeks will give you the ability to draw anything placed in front of you in graphite.
The first session you will become proficient in observation and drawing skills, gaining an understanding of layout, spacing, lines, shapes, proportions. The second session you will gain an in depth understanding of the form values that will make your drawing look 3 dimensional while gaining a mastery of graphite tools.

Session BREAKDOWN with Dates:
1st Session Drawing Accurately - Learn how to properly layout a design, how to see shape, and how to accurately draw lines.
Dates: We will begin Wednesday, January 8 - March 26, 2025
2nd Session: VALUES! Learn the Basic Form Values, blending, shading, and tinting techniques to create a 3D look to your work.
Dates: We will begin on Wednesday, April 2-May 26, 2025
Advanced Drawing
with Christine Raymond
Award winning artist, Christine Raymond, offers this class for artists who desire to refine their drawing skills in charcoal.
The first semester we will further our understanding of the 9 value scale as it pertains to form, understand edges, learn how to compose a complex still life to create a visual story of self, and create an award winning piece. Second semester students will gain an understanding of the foundational aspects of both figures and portrait in charcoal to create a final piece for competitions and portfolios.
To be considered, the student must submit a letter/email of interest along with a portfolio in-cluding 5 pieces with an artist statements. Please do not hesitate to contact Christine for addi-tional information or to answer questions.
Tuition Includes:
-Regular weekly classes
-Additional outside support via text, email, and even zoom
-Occasional one-on-one meetings or semi-groups to review portfolios or teach specific skills missing
After the New Year on Wednesdays, Advanced Drawing will be 2 - 8 week sessions to study the figure and portrait in charcoals.
