Journey to Drawing: Exploring Pen and Ink

Whether you are a beginning artist or just want to improve your skills, these classes will explore the basis of all art ... drawing!
This series is designed to identify fundamental drawing skills that the participants can take and develop further on their own. Participants can take one or several sessions; each session will introduce a different aspect of drawing, such as gesture, line, shading, proportions, etc.
Pen and Ink Techniques
In this class you'll explore hatching, cross-hatching, stippling, and other techniques that allow the artist to create beautiful, detailed drawings with a simple pen.

Foundational Drawing: 3D Forms

Understanding light and shadow is key to creating realistic drawings. In this 6-week foundational drawing course, you'll explore the power of form and values using graphite, building essential skills that will strengthen all areas of your artwork.
Through structured exercises and step-bystep instruction, you'll learn how to see and apply values effectively, turning flat drawings into dynamic, three-dimensional forms.

Crash Course to Drawing

Jumpstart your drawing skills in just five hours!
Ready to finally feel confident with your drawing? This 5-hour intensive workshop is designed to give you a strong foundation in the essentials: composition, proportion, and accuracy. You’ll learn to see like an artist, simplify complex forms, and capture not just “a dog,” but JoJo the dog—unique and true to life.
Through guided demonstrations and hands-on exercises, you’ll sharpen your eye, build control, and complete a finished still-life drawing using all the techniques covered. Whether you’re a total beginner or a painter looking to strengthen your drawing skills, this crash course will give you tools you can use right away.
All materials provided. Just bring your sketchbook and a set of pencils—everything else is ready for you.

In this session you'll tackle drawing our wonderful furry and feathered friends. If you have some experience, you may work in any medium you like. If you are just beginning, we recommend you start with pencil or charcoal.

Mixing it Up: Watercolor, Gouache, Ink, and Charcoal

You may have learned how to use some of these mediums on their own, but how do they interact together?
In this mixed media class artist and instructor Mike Flynn will help you create unique, vital interpretations of subjects. Your pieces will feature a strong sense of design, light, and vibrant color.
Come explore what happens when you mix watercolor with charcoal and pen marks and lines, adding gouache for colorful accents.

Wild, Wonderful Watercolor Pencils!
with Valerie Larson
Have fun exploring the many different techniques one can use with watercolor pencils!
Watercolor pencils are a versatile medium because they can be used dry for colored-pencil effects, partially diluted, or completely diluted. These pencils are fun to use and can create smooth or textured artwork, and they’re a great way to become more comfortable with watercolor as a painting medium!
Accomplished artist Valerie Larson will be presenting examples of her own watercolor-pencil paintings, showcasing various techniques she uses. These techniques include mixing colors, creating paper palettes, and much more.
Students can bring their own photo for painting inspiration or follow along with the one provided in the workshop. You will also be working on Aquaboard, a clay-like surface made for watercolors.

This series is designed to identify fundamental drawing skills that the participants can take and develop further on their own. Participants can take one or several sessions; each session will introduce a different aspect of drawing, such as gesture, line, shading, proportions, etc.
Gaining Perspective
In this class you will learn techniques to help you depict accurate proportion and perspective in your artwork. These skills are applicable to any medium, but you will be concentrating on preliminary drawings rather than finished work. Students may work in black in white or in color.
