Deck the Cards: Holiday Cards, Cocoa, and Cookies with Michele

Join local artist Michele Frantz for Cards and Cocoa, Holiday card edition!
Michele will walk the group through a magical holiday scene using multimedia on card paper. Ditch the shopping trip and leave with a set of handmade cards with envelopes to give out this holiday season.
Get festive with some hot cocoa and participate in an optional cookie exchange by bringing in 12 cookies to share.
Students that register before 12/3 will get a free popcorn voucher for the Christmas Market December 5th and 6th!
All supplies are included in the registration fee.

Ugly Xmas Sweater Workshop
with Cheryl Neway

Come get your holiday spirit on in this fun interactive upcycle tie-dye class!
We will be crafting and creating a funky design to boost your holiday cheer and spread more joy. Bring an ugly sweater or a hoodie to up cycle and dye. The garment will need to be made with natural fibers, such as cotton, linen, hemp, rayon, and silk. Please don't bring anything polyester, acrylic, spandex, etc.
Dying materials will be provided via the supplies fee.
Students who register for this course will get free popcorn at the Christmas Market December 5th and 6th!

Mural Workshop: The Craft of Painting on Walls
with Caesar McGann

Join us for a free one day seminar which will explore the history, relevance and techniques of painting Murals. Hosted by Caesar McGann, a professional artist based in Northern VA who has been painting on walls of all shapes and sizes for over 30 years. A student of the craft, Caesar’s artistic career is rooted in the culture of graffiti. Well known for his signature style and mastery of letters, this seminar will encompass various methods and approaches one may encounter while painting on walls.
Looking at mural painting through the lens of art history, there will be discussion of how different cultures have used this art form to enrich their own respective societies. From ancient Egypt, to the masters of the Renaissance, all the way up to modern day sign painters and street artists; mankind has been adorning the walls around them since the dawn of time.
This course will touch on the significant movements and developments of mural painting, as artists have strived to hone their skill sets, learning how to create the massive masterpieces that dot the landscapes of cities all over the world. No experience necessary, no materials needed.
If you have an interest in art history, or you are an aspiring muralist hoping to up their game, this will be a great way to spend the afternoon.

Join artist Michele Frantz for a intensive workshop on making your own holiday ornaments with watercolors!
Reference images will be provided, or bring your own.

Paper Shape Creations - Way Beyond Silhouettes!

This hands on workshop invites you to explore a fresh and playful approach to painting through the art of paper shapes.
You’ll discover how paper shapes can transform into expressive, dynamic works of art. Through demonstrations and guided exercises you’ll learn how to design with background, subject, and detailed shapes to build layered compositions that move far beyond simple silhouettes to create depth, energy, and visual storytelling.
This hands-on class emphasizes both process and creativity. You’ll discover techniques for adhering and decorating paper shapes—whether flat or raised—to bring texture, color, and dimension into your work.
By the end of the session, you’ll walk away with your own unique paper-shape creation, inspiration for future projects, and a new perspective on how shapes can become powerful tools in painting and design.

Visualizing Movement: A Dance Workshop

This interactive demonstration invites adults and senior citizens to experience dance as a living response to visual art. Each session features demonstrations of movement pieces inspired by selected artworks, followed by guided discussions that open up space for reflection, connection, and personal interpretation.
Participants will not only witness how dance can translate colors, shapes, and textures into motion, but also be encouraged to share their thoughts and even experiment with simple movement prompts themselves. No prior dance background is required—just curiosity and a spirit of exploration.

Designed for adult artists and makers, this class takes place in our digital lab, where you will learn to use Krita, the powerful and free digital painting and illustration software, to create professional marketing materials.
What You'll Create and Learn:
- Logo Design: Develop a unique and memorable logo that visually represents your artistic brand. You will learn Krita's vector tools to design a scalable logo that works on everything from your website to a business card.
- Book/Album Cover Art: Design a compelling front cover that tells a story and captures attention. We will explore composition, typography, and color theory within Krita to create a professional-grade cover for a fictional or personal project.
- Promotional Graphics: Create eye-catching digital graphics for social media, email newsletters, and online announcements. Learn to use layers, brushes, and text effects in Krita to craft stunning visuals that promote your work and engage your audience.
- Digital Portfolio Pieces: Transform your existing artwork into polished digital files for online display. You'll learn to prepare and optimize your art for web and print, ensuring your portfolio looks its best.
