Ready to take your writing to the next level? Prep for Publication is an 8-week intensive writing workshop designed for writers who are ready to polish their work and explore the path to publication. Whether you're refining short stories, personal essays, or creative nonfiction, this workshop offers a supportive space to grow your craft and gain insight into the literary world.
Each week, we’ll combine thoughtful critique, generative writing prompts, and practical guidance on submitting your work for publication. By the end, you'll have two polished pieces, a deeper understanding of the submission process, and a list of resources to keep you moving forward.
Workshop Schedule:
Week 1: Introductions, formatting tips, critique ground rules, key resources, and writing prompt exercises to spark creativity
Weeks 2–6: Workshop and critique two pieces from each participant + weekly reading discussions and generative writing prompts
Week 7: Submit your final drafts for Story Factory, learn where to submit your work, and demystify the publication process
Week 8: Literary Magazine Workshop — dive into real lit mags to understand what editors look for and how to tailor your submissions
This workshop is ideal for writers looking to share their work, receive feedback, and gain the confidence to submit to publications. Bring your voice, your stories, and your curiosity—we’ll take care of the rest.

Pen and Ink and Wash 6/10-7/8
with Mike Flynn

In this multi-media class, instructor Mike Flynn will guide students through four different projects using ink pen and watercolor paint. Students will conquer a new project each week, and learn the fundamentals of using both pen and paint to create beautiful art.
Canvases and pens will be provided via the supply fee, paint supplies will need to be purchased. You can find supply lists on the classes and camps page on our website or by clicking here.

Oil Painting: Still Life
with Emily Thomson

Learn to paint various still life set ups using the fundamentals of oil painting. We will start with basic shape still lifes and learn value by using just black and white paint. Then we will paint more complex subjects and learn how to work in color.
Students will learn how to mix colors, how to paint using oils, and various techniques to build layers of value and color. Supplies are provided.

Working in oils, you’ll learn how to usethe palette knife to create dynamic surfaces, but the skills you’ll gain translate beautifully across mediums. Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned painter, this is your chance to play, explore, and paint boldly!

Sunday Sculpting 6/15-6/29

Instructor and artist, Lydia Bratton, will guide this class through the start to finish of creating art through sculpture. Sculpture requires patience, perseverance, and sometimes a mindset shift to achieve desired results.
Lydia will stress the importance of trusting the process, making sculptors of all levels feel capable and confident in creating a piece they can be proud of. Students will plan and complete sculptures they can take home and enjoy.
Sculptures will be left to dry for a week, and students will return to paint their finished, dried product before taking their masterpiece home.

Acrylics Basics and Beyond 7/8-7/22

Join artist Michele Frantz for a short, 3 lesson session in acrylic painting! Versatile and forgiving, acrylic paints may be manipulated with a wide array of techniques, applied to many different surfaces, and modified with various additives.
Students new to acrylics will learn introductory basics; experienced students will improve their skills and explore new directions. Whether you are a beginning artist or just want to improve your skills, these classes will explore the basis of all art ... drawing!
This series is designed to identify fundamental drawing skills that the participants can take and develop further on their own. Participants can take one or several sessions; each session will introduce a different aspect of drawing, such as gesture, line, shading, proportions, etc.
Subjects will include still life and landscapes. Participants will provide some of their own materials (see supply list); other materials will be provided via the $5 supply fee.
